In Hospital Support
HeartKids Queensland has an extensive in-hospital support program for both HeartKids and their parents. Key features of this program include:.
Dedicated Family Support
HeartKids Queensland provides access to experienced Family Support Co-ordinators who can offer help and hope during your child’s hospital stay. A family support Co-ordinator will be on ward 10B at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm and from 8am – 11am on Saturday. You may find it helpful to talk with a support person prior to admission, during surgery or at times of crisis. Each Family support co-ordinator brings different experiences and knowledge.
Each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning members are invited to join us for morning tea in the family room on ward 10B at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, morning tea is open to families that are admitted to hospital or who just want to visit.
Our family support team also visit you during your time in PICU, we realise that this can be a stressful time and you may feel isolated, if you would like us to visit you or your child please let your nurse or social worker know. You are also welcome to visit us anytime in the cardiac Family room on level 10, or call the family support phone 0n 0455953010
If you are a teen or young adult admitted to the Prince Charles Hospital and would like a visit or call from family support please get in touch via phone or email.
Heartkids Queensland also have volunteer support leaders in regional areas of Queensland. These leaders may attend Queensland Paediatric Cardiac Clinics in hospitals around the state. These volunteer leaders understand the unique experience of rural and remote patients that must travel to Brisbane for treatment.

Parent Meals & Morning Tea
HeartKids Queensland understands that sometimes looking after yourself is not your priority, however it is ours!
We provide parent meals to help you keep up with nutrition while away from home. The nutritionally balanced frozen meals are available in the parent lounge and funded from community donations. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday each week HeartKids Queensland hosts morning tea in the parents lounge, this is an opportunity for parents to take a moment to de stress, meet other parents or chat with a family support coordinator. An open invitation stands for all Heartkids and their families to attend morning tea after discharge. An emergency meals cupboard is also located in the parents lounge where you may find foods such as noodles, spaghetti, muesli bars and other long shelf life items.
