Hamilton Island Golf Day- A huge Success
On Sunday 17 July 2016, 94 golfers battled the elements on Dent Island, just off Hamilton, to play in the Charity Ambrose Golf Day supporting HeartKids Queensland.
With the help of Troy and Kerri Martin, who have orchestrated this event for the past six years by teaming up with local and interstate businesses and supporters, the day aimed to raise $35,000 for HeartKids Queensland.
The Golf Day however smashed all expectations by raising close to $75,000. “The day itself couldn’t happen without the generosity of all our sponsors, donors, volunteers and competitors” Ms Martin said “I am overwhelmed at the amount of support we receive and the money we have raised, it is a testament to the belief and generosity each and every person who is involved in this day has for the charity and what it achieves in the community.”
“We are so very grateful for Troy and Kerri Martin and all the people who make this event such a success.” Rachael Stecher, HeartKids representative said. “It is not widely known, but nationally eight babies are being born each day with Childhood Heart Disease and sadly five lose their fight each week.” she indicated “It is a staggering figure and this money will go towards supporting those families by continuing to provide support where it is needed most and that can be while families are in the hospital or when they go home and are feeling at their most vulnerable.”
Set in the beautiful Whitsunday’s the event is the perfect excuse for a long weekend away, with many of the golfers choosing to stay on Hamilton Island or close by at Airlie Beach and make the most of the stunning surroundings.
“It’s a terrific cause and we are delighted to be able to support the day” Craig Lowndes commented. “It all started with a group of friends wanting to raise funds to say thank you after support from HeartKids Qld for one of the group’s daughter. So it’s great to see the event grow from strength to strength, and see the attendees so generous. I am mildly concerned how we are all going to top it next year!”
“While the date for next year has not been set, it is already an annual event for most and we see a lot of people come back year after year.” Ms Martin said “that doesn’t mean we don’t have room for any newcomers however, and we welcome new attendees, donors, sponsors and volunteers for the event.”
HeartKids Queensland would like to say a big thank you to all the sponsors, donors’ volunteers and event attendees:
